This online tool will automatically insert stress marks into Russian text. As you may know, there are no strict rules for stress position in Russian language. Stress may fall on any syllable of a word - from first to last (compare to French where stress almost always falls on the last syllable). Stress patterns are almost impossible to predict especially for someone who just started to learn Russian.
Some Russian words with the same spelling can have different meanings depending on where you put stress. Compare - замо́к (lock) - за́мок (castle). These words are called homographs (to be more precise - heteronyms, because they are also pronounced differently). All possible stress positions in such words will be highlighted in red.
Note: Maximum number of characters for unregistered users - 700, for registered users - 7000. For correct displaying of the text with stress marks Unicode fonts should be installed on your computer. Make sure to choose the right encoding for this page in your web browser - Unicode (UTF-8).
